Giving Back to Vermont Beyond a Lifetime

An avid cyclist, Ron Manganiello has spent thousands of volunteer hours helping make bikes accessible to anyone who needs one. Through the nonprofit he founded, Bike Recycle Vermont (now part of Old Spokes Home) donated bikes are refurbished and provided at an affordable cost to low-income Vermonters, resettled refugees, people experiencing homelessness, and others rebuilding their lives.

He established charitable remainder trusts at the Vermont Community Foundation to direct a portion of his estate to continue supporting programs like this in Vermont after his lifetime.

"When I think about the future, meaning beyond my life, you know," says Ron, "I made that money here in Vermont. A lot of it should go back to Vermont to benefit the place that supported me so well in so many ways, not just financially."
